NIH Study Finds Diet and Exercise Almost Twice As Effective As Metformin In Reversing Pre-Diabetes

National Diabetes Information Clearing House, an arm of the National Institute of Health, launched a program called the The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). It was a major multicenter clinical research study with over 3,000 participants aimed at discovering whether modest weight loss through dietary changes and increased physical activity or treatment with the oral diabetes drug metformin (Glucophage) could prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes in study participants. At the beginning of the DPP, participants were all overweight and had blood glucose, also called blood sugar, levels higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes—a condition called pre-diabetes.

The DPP found that participants who lost a modest amount of weight through dietary changes and increased physical activity sharply reduced their chances of developing diabetes. Taking metformin also reduced risk, although less dramatically. The DPP resolved its research questions earlier than projected and, following the recommendation of an external monitoring board, the study was halted a year early. The researchers published their findings in the February 7, 2002, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Scientists Find McDonald's Meal Produces Disease Producing Free Radicals!

Paresh Dandona, MD, Director of the Diabetes-Endocrinology Center of Western New York and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at the Medical School of the State University of New York at Buffalo, showed that a small McDonald’s meal, 900 calories, resulted in inflammation and oxidative stress at a cellular, molecular level.

The markers Dr. Dandona and his team used to establish the presence of inflammation and oxidative stress are the same ones the body produces when it is seriously hurt.

“In the cells, we look at nuclear factor kB (NF-kappa B), which is the orchestrator of inflammation. When we get infections, it is NF-kappa B that gets stimulated,” he explains. “We were shocked to find that what infections do, food does, too.”

Disturbingly, the post-meal inflammatory reaction did not resolve quickly — study subjects still showed signs of inflammation five hours after eating.

Dr. Dandona’s research also found that people with obesity who already had a basic level of inflammation and oxidative stress had a worse reaction than people of normal weight when challenged with a fast-food meal. “Sure enough, they start from higher levels of inflammation, they achieve a much higher level, and the inflammation is much more prolonged.” The oxidative and inflammatory stress observed with meals probably contributes to atherosclerosis, heart attack, and stroke.

Now the good news: Some foods may protect against inflammation. Dr. Dandona and his team tested a portion of orange juice containing 300 calories against an amount of glucose containing 300 calories and found that while the glucose caused inflammation, the orange juice did not, despite the fact that it, too, is pure carbohydrate.

Their next experiment investigated what happened when subjects drank orange juice with a small McDonald’s meal. “And guess what: Orange juice neutralizes inflammation. To me, that is one of the most amazing findings in the field of nutrition today,” says Dr. Dandona. “On the one hand you have all these terrible things that cause inflammation, but if you take a certain amount of orange juice, it balances things off. That’s really remarkable.”

Part of the reason orange juice and glucose have a different impact on inflammation may be due to the nature of the type of carbohydrate: The sugar in orange juice is half fructose, and fructose is noninflammatory. But what would cause it to be anti-inflammatory? “The secret is probably in agents called flavonoids, which are what gives orange juice its yellow color,” says Dr. Dandona. “And two major flavonoids are hesperetin and naringenin, which have shown in the test tube to suppress free-radical formation and to be anti-inflammatory. Chances are that the secret is in these flavonoids.”

Wow! What a Bombshell! Why haven't we heard about this before? The doctor's work also showed that consuming fat, the other major component of a McDonald's meal, also produced free radicals.

Dr Dandona's research also showed that antioxidants in food, such as the flavonoids in the orange juice, can and do protect the body against free radical damage.

Deadly Diabetes Advice For Diabetics From a Registered Dietician!

This is an excerpt from an article on Living With Diabetes, written by a Licensed Dietitian who will, mercifully (on my part!), remain nameless!

"By definition, diet simply means the foods that you choose everyday. There are no special foods for people with diabetes; you can eat all of the same foods that your family enjoys.

So, blissfully "eat all the same foods that made you sick?"

This is incredibly bad advice to give a well person, let alone someone who is dying from diabetes!

Oh, you did not know that diabetes is a death sentence? It, along with its complications is the 3rd leading cause of death in this country and cuts about 10-15 years off of your life span?

Nutrition is the key to curing diabetes and most other chronic diseases. Poor nutrition is a big factor in insulin resistance, leading to a build up of acid in the blood and the generation of free radicals. Free radicals are mutant cells that attack normal cells, turning them into free radicals in a cascading chain of celluar raidcalization and spreding cell damage.

As a result of poor nutrition, acidosis and free radical damage, the insulin receptors on cells do not function properly and therefore glucose, sugar is prevented from entering the cells, which then call for more insulin. The result is that insulin and glucose build up in the blood stream, signaling but not causing diabetes. This leads to obesity, nerve damage, poor circulation; precursors to the complications of diabetes.

Overacidity of the body is at the root of all disease!

Even Dr Louis Pasteur, the inventor of the Germ Theory of disease, recanted that theory at the end of his life, saying, "It is not the germs, but the terrain that causes sickness." (sic) In other words, it is the hospitable environment in the body that causes sickness.

Just as mosquitoes look for and can only survive in dirty stagnant water, they do not cause the water to become dirty and stagnant. Clean up the water and you get rid of the mosquitoes. Clean up (alkalize) your body and your disease will go away!

Do You Want Statin Drugs in Your Water?

My comments: Cmon Kids! can't you see what the deal is by now? The Medical Establishment, (Bankers,Big Pharma,AMA, FDA, Disease Associations, and certain Disease Support Groups) has profits as its primary motive;, your health, my health the Hippocratic Oath be Damned!

Whenever possible, Avoid prescription drugs, especially those prescribed for chronic illnesses, like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc. They are generally dangerous, ("In rare cases, death may occur!") don't cure the ailment and are expensive. Be open to investigate natural alternatives, dietary changes, exercise, nutritional and herbal supplements.

In fact, an alkaline lifestyle is great protection from disease and is an essential ingredient in strenghthening the body's immune system. Check it out!

New Study Finds Meditteranean Diet Cuts Need for Drugs in T2 Diabetes

From the Annals of Internal Medicine:

In this trial, the authors compared the effects of a Mediterranean diet versus a typical low-fat diet for diabetes management.

Researchers randomly assigned 215 patients to follow either a low carbohydrate, Mediterranean-style diet or a low-fat diet for four years.

After four years, 44% of patients in the Mediterranean-style diet group required antihyperglycemic drug therapy compared to 70% in the low-fat diet group.

Patients in the Mediterranean diet group also experienced greater weight loss and an improvement in some coronary risk factors.

The Mediterranean diet is a step in the right direction. However, nearly half, 44% of participants still needed to go on diabetic drugs.

The Alkaline Diet is the Industrial Strength anti diabetic diet as it does more to alkalize the body, eliminate the over acidity which is a big part of the diabetic's problem. New Diabetes Drug Approved by The FDA, YaaaY!

Another new Profit making (hopefully) diabetes drug approved by the FDA! Yaaay!

I wonder Who paid for the clinical trials? By whom were they conducted? How do we know the results were accurately reported? Many FDA researchers report pressure to lie about their research!

How much money is the drug projected to make for Bristol Myers? How long will it be before Onglyza will be pulled from the market when it is inevitably associated with heart attacks, kidney or liver failure and other "side effects?" Hopefully not before its new and improved successor is announced.

You can see why the medical establishment, the AMA, the ADA, Big Pharma, the "Support Groups" that can only stay in business by helping to suppress the truth about the MediCrooks, rarely cooperate in spreading the truth.

However, there are a growing number of enlightened health care professionals who are discovering and embracing alternative treatments of diabetes and other chronic diseases for which the MediCrooks have no cures, just more and more dangerous and expensive drugs.

Fortunately, I was able to cure my own Type 2 diabetes by alkalizing my diet and discovering ionized alkaline water.
