Obese Women Are Sicker, And Die Sooner!

It is estimated that 1/3 of all women and fully 1/2 of Black women are obese! Obesity is reached when you are more than 30 lbs overweight. This is a national tragedy. The cost and suffering to these women, their families and the nation cannot even be quantified.

Here is a reprint of some disturbing documentation on the subject.

Overweight Women Not Likely to Enjoy Healthy Old Age

More likely headed to major chronic diseases such as cancer and coronary heart disease and poor quality of life

Sept. 30, 2009 - Women who put on weight as they approach middle-age could reduce their chances of enjoying a healthy old age by up to 80%, says new research in the British Medial Journal. The study suggests that women who have a high body mass index in middle age are significantly more likely to suffer from major chronic diseases such as cancer and coronary heart disease and poor quality of life.

Dr Oscar Franco, Assistant Clinical Professor of Public Health at the University of Warwick Medical School collaborated on the paper with researchers from Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts.

The research team found that for every 2lbs gained in weight since the age of 18, the odds of healthy survival into old age decreased by 5%. Therefore, a 40lb gain results in a 100% decrease in the chance of a healthy survival into old age!

They also found that women who were overweight at the age of 18 and continued to gain weight as they grew older were most at risk of developing a major chronic disease. The more weight gained, the greater the odds of developing a chronic disease compared to women of normal weight.

The research team used the Nurses' Health Study, which has gathered data from more than 120,000 female registered nurses living in 11 US states since 1976. Follow-up questionnaires have been sent out every two years to update information on disease incidence and lifestyle factors.

Dr Franco said those study participants who had reached the age of 70 and were free of major chronic disease, had no major impairment of cognitive function and no major limitation of physical function were considered as examples of 'successful aging'.

"In summary, he said, this study provides new evidence that obesity at mid-life is a strong risk factor predicting a worse probability of successful survival among older women. In addition, our data suggest that maintenance of healthy weight throughout adulthood may be vital to optimal overall health at older ages.

Given that more and more people are surviving to older ages and, at the same time, gaining weight, our results may be particularly important with respect to clinical or public health interventions."

These findings no doubt equally apply to men although the fact remains that there are probably 40% more obese women then there are men, hence the direction of this article.

Obesity is easily overcome by both sexes with knowledge. The cause of our obesity epidemic is the Standard American Diet (SAD).

It contains far to many acid producing foods like sugar, dairy, grains and excessive protein and not enough water, plain water, not iced tea or coke.

Historically, man's diet consisted of vegetables, fruits and some protein (a 200 lb man only needs 1/4 pound per day of protein). His consumption of sugar averaged 4 lbs per year.

His genes were set to deal with the foods that he ate in the beginning and in the quantities likely to be encountered in daily life.

Today, grains, which as I mentioned were not part of man's original diet, make up the bulk of our diet, followed closely by sugar. Sugar consumption is now approaching 1/2 lb per day per person. Some teenagers get 40% or more of their daily calories from sugar, mostly from the 700 cans of soda they consume on average!

This avalanche of foods that we were never meant to consume disrupts our body's metabolism. Insulin constantly floods our system, attempting to deal with the onslaught of carbohydrates, the excess of which is stored as fat.

The fact that very few of us replaces the 2.5 Qts of water we lose every 24 hours by respiration, elimination and perspiration, means that we are also chronically dehydrated which overwhelms the body's mandated acid/alkaline balance. This situation, called acidosis is potentially deadly. One of the body's defense mechanisms is to isolate excess acid by entombing it in unsightly blobs of fat, usually on the thighs, buttocks and abdomen.

Just as obesity and its associated diseases are caused by a toxic diet, so can they be cured with adequate nutrition.
